Audi's A6 and A7 models have to trouble dealing out explosive horsepower. In some situations, however, restraint can be the most effective policy for both people and machines. Such is the principle behind Audi Automatic Start and Stop. This system enables the engine to shut off when continuous brake application brings the car down to zero momentum. Once the driver relieves the brake or turns the wheel, their Audi's motor will roar back to life.
The letter A within an open circle is the Automatic Start and Stop icon. Press the overhead button with the icon to engage the system. Some Audi engines will automatically engage it with every ignition, while other types will retain their previous settings. (See your owner's manual for your particular model's preferences.) That same icon will also appear as an indicator in the onscreen display. If it is green, the feature is operating correctly. If it is white with a forward slash through it, the engine has been kept running for a number of reasons.
The motor will remain on to power climate control mechanisms and some other applications for the sake of cabin comfort. Temperature specifications under the hood are also taken into account. Automatic Start and Stop is disabled by S Mode, so weigh your options before utilizing it. Also, bear in mind that this feature is activated by speeds of at least 2mph. When your vehicle is inching its way through rush hour, expect the engine to stay wakeful for your convenience.
A closed door and a fastened seatbelt are also required. Even if you exit the vehicle too hastily - forgetting to shift into park following an automatic stop - Audi Automatic Start and Stop will deactivate the ignition when you unbuckle and release door latch. Audi believes that safety, performance, cost-effectiveness in one package are never too much to ask for, and that belief shines through every detail.
